My new house

This is a computer generated image of my new house. It has two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, downstairs there is a sitting room, a loo and a kitchen diner that overlooks a small garden. It even has an entrance hall! Unfortunately it will not be completed until the end of November 2024 but it will be worth waiting for as it is exactly what I was looking for.

A few weeks ago I found a buyer for the cottage. She loves it – which makes it easier to let go and leave. This also meant that I had to find somewhere to move to.

I have been looking at new build, energy efficient, low maintenance houses. This will be a joy as the cottage always seems to need repairs here and there. The cottage is old and not very energy efficient. As it’s Grade 11 listed the cottage is not elegible for green eco grants.

Sadly the gardens of new builds are small but it will be somewhere new to design and sit out on warm days. The house even comes with a little shed!

To be honest I am amazed that I could buy this peach of a house for such a fair price. Finally I am excited about moving although it will still be a big wrench leaving the cottage after 32 years.

The house is 883 square feet and is super insulated. It is semi detached – the back butts up with the side of the house next door. The house comes with tiled flooring and carpets, a fully fitted kitchen with integral appliances. It has has underfloor heating downstairs fuelled by a heat pump. I love the central front door.

The house is in between the villages of Eastergate and Barnham, in West Sussex. Seven miles from Chichester and under four miles to a gorgeous and quiet beach. There are good bus routes a short walk away and a well reviewed doctors’ surgery near by.

The house is on a small estate of 44 houses and this is one of the smallest. The front of the house overlooks mature trees.

I am so lucky to have lived so long in a cottage I love and be moving to somewhere that has so much potential for happiness.

It’s definitely a plus not having to worry about maintenance, and it will be cheaper to run too. How good that you have found a loving owner for your gorgeous cottage. It will be a big change for you but sounds ideal. Good luck with the move, though it’s a way off yet.

Congratulations, Fiona! That looks snug & cosy and extremely attractive. Delighted to hear you found a buyer for the cottage having worked your little cotton socks off to iron out the issues and improve it. Great location, too. Only a stone’s throw from the fleshpots of Portsmouth, and the seaside also, of course. Keep us updated on progress.
