We are trying to eat through the freezer contents at the moment. I keep on unearthing strange unmarked parcels. I was once told to label everything, that I’d never remember what they were. That wise sage was right. Now I can’t even remember who it was. Yesterday I found what transpired to be cod and concocted this recipe for tonight’s supper. Danny has a natural ability for languages. Spanish, Irish, Italian and a smattering of Latin. He learnt Italian on CDs when he was commuting weekly to Exeter for a year. I find that keeping au fait with the English language is pretty stretching. In France I can get by if my aunt and her famous pen are to hand. Otherwise I’m mute. Many years ago I moved into my first London flat. A pretty loft conversion with mansard ceilings and views of roofs, chimneys and unending sky. I needed transport so I bought myself a reconditioned BSA Bantam with Easy Rider handlebars and swooped around on that. My Mother was horrified and that made it even more fun. The weekly shop was basic as everything had to be transported on my back in a small frameless canvas rucksack.
